Part 2. 3 Other Ways to Fix iPhone Screen Lock up Problem

Assuming that you wanted to fix the iPhone screen lock up issue on your own, we have also gathered effective ways on how to do it.

Way 1: Ask a Contact to Call You

If your iPhone screen is unresponsive, you can ask someone near you to give you a call just to alert or wake up your phone. If you are able to answer the call then it’s great! There is nothing wrong with your phone, it was only stuck.

Way 2: Force Restart Your Device

According to Apple support, the first troubleshooting you can perform on an unresponsive phone is doing a force restart. A force restart will not harm your device or lose any of your data since this is at a hardware level. It simply shuts the device off and turns it back on.

If you own an iPhone X, 8 or 8 Plus:

  1. Touch and let go of the Volume Up button.
  2. Do the same with the Volume Down button.
  3. Then touch and hold the Side button until the Apple icon shows up, then release the button.

For those using iPhone 7 and 7 Plus:

  1. Touch and hold the Volume Down and the Sleep/Wake buttons.
  2. Release them when you see the Apple logo.

If you want to force restart an iPhone 6, 6S and SE:

  1. Touch and hold down the Sleep/Wake and the Home buttons.
  2. Release the buttons once the Apple logo shows up.

Way 3: Restore iPhone in Recovery Mode

If none of the methods worked and resolved the iPhone screen lock up issue, then you can consider restoring your iPhone. However, this process takes a longer time plus it will cause data loss unless you have made backups.

Restoring an iPhone via Recovery mode fixes a lot of system issues like the screen lock up. Just make sure that all your latest phone contents were backed up to iTunes or iCloud.

Here is how to restore an iPhone on iTunes via Recovery mode:

  1. Launch the iTunes on your computer and don’t forget to check for the latest update.
  2. Plugin the iPhone to the computer via USB cable and perform a force restart according to your phone model. The steps are the same for the force restart method we mentioned earlier except that you don’t release the buttons yet even when the Apple logo appears. Continue holding the buttons until you will see the ‘Connect to iTunes’ message.
  3. Back on your iTunes, it will now detect that your iPhone is in recovery mode and a pop-up message window appears asking you to restore your device. Click OK and wait for the iTunes to complete the restore process.

After your phone has been fully restored, you can now set up the device like a brand new phone. At this point, you can restore your backups so you can start using the iPhone again.
