How to Recover Deleted Files from iPhone 8 in 2021

By Vernon Roderick, Last updated: March 17, 2021

"I'm new to the whole iPhone thing, in fact, I'm pretty much new to the whole smartphone thing. I'm one of those people with the older model of phones, the one with the touchpad and all that.

I was completely fine with it until it finally conked out on me. Well, that's to be expected, I've had that phone for a few years now.

My only problem now is I bought an iPhone 8, figured I might as well go all out since I haven't upgraded in years but it seems I ended up deleting a number of files I didn't mean to.

I lost messages, contacts, pictures, gosh the list goes on. I'm clumsy and in need of help!"

The iPhone 8 is an amazing smartphone, it pretty much can do anything you may want. The simple and sleek design has gotten veteran and new users hooked. Let's not forget the power behind the screen is also quite astonishing, as well.
Of course, the apps that you can download for an iPhone continues to expand as well, you are given so many choices to choose from it's almost stifling. There are apps for games, various social media applications, photo enhancement, education and the list just keeps going and going.

While these are all pretty great, it doesn't help that we can just as easily delete or remove files that we took some time to build up, such as your contact list or your photos. We all know how we careful fill up our phone's memory with pictures we want to keep, numbers of important people we always want to stay in touch with, messages that can never be replaced and much more.

However, as we build upon those, it could all come crashing down and everything can just as easily vanish.

Part 1. Possible Reasons You Lost Files from iPhone 8

Deleted by accident - Happens to the best of us, sometimes you are just too busy. On one hand, you are checking some old photos you love having on your iPhone 8, on the other you are still in the middle of cleaning out the recycle bin on your laptop. Your attention waivers and you accidentally delete files instead. You didn't mean to, but it just... happened.

Reformat - Even iPhone 8 units have to be reformatted sometimes, it's just the way it is. As the iPhone 8 is quite new, it is rather uncommon for you to need to reformat this early but on the offside, it's always good to start with a new phone. Unfortunately, you forgot to back everything up. Gasp...

Upgrading phone - You finally switched, it's great, you got the latest iPhone 8 and you are beside yourself. You hit the restore button confident that you are in good shape. As soon as it finishes loading, you realize you are missing a number or two, wait it seems you can't find some messages, there are several more files missing. Great, something went wrong.

Upgrading the iOS - It happens sometimes that during a major upgrade of the operating system, some people have experienced a loss of file. The reasons are uncertain but it's being looked into, in the meantime though, doesn't look like they'll be getting that file back.

Corrupted data - Another uncertainty that can happen to almost anyone, why it happens can be explained in a number of ways and can't be explained in another dozen more ways. Sometimes it just happens.

Broken phone - There are stories of those who get an iPhone 8, happy as can be, with only a few seconds in their hands and that's when tragedy strikes, the brand new iPhone 8 falls to the ground and a heart-wrenching shatter can be heard, rain starts to fall, the wind blows... alright perhaps not that dramatic but a brand new busted phone is something that really does suck and sorry to say, you are an owner of that phone.

There could be a number more of causes that can be a mixture of any of the reasons above, or maybe even brand new reasons as to why you delete files on your iPhone 8. At this point, it may not really matter to you, you are looking for a way to recover deleted files for now.

Thankfully, you've found a few options available to you.

Part 2. Recover Deleted Files from iCloud Account

The iCloud is a pretty great invention for iPhone users and it is a wonderful place to store your backup. For those who aren't familiar, the iCloud is a virtual storage space that is based online, where you can place your saved information such as photos, messages, contacts and more behind a username and password.

Space is limited unless you pay for more, but otherwise, it's something most iPhone users get, as the first few gigs are free storage space, 5 gigs if that has yet to be updated as you read this, is the usual standard size.

Most iPhone users are invited to input their username and password when they set up their iPhone, for those who don't have an iCloud account, you are able to create one for free as long as you are connected to the internet.

Hopefully, you did back up your files on iCloud and this option is perfect for your deleted files. Follow the steps below to recover it accordingly:

Extract Deleted Files from iCloud Account

Step 1: Assuming you did place your iCloud account in your iPhone 8, go to "Settings" and find the "iCloud" option.

Step 2: Find the files you have deleted, for now, let's focus on "Contacts" as that is likely near the top. As you scroll down, you will notice that it is toggle has been switched on when you signed in your iCloud account. Simply switch it off and you will see the loading screen, it is informing you that it is being switched off.

Step 3: Please note you will be prompted, with three options "Keep on my phone," "Delete from my phone," and "Cancel." Choose "Delete from my phone," this option is ideal so that you won't have any double entries when you do recover your deleted files

Step 4: Switch the "Contacts" toggle back on and wait for the loading to finish.

Step 5: Check your deleted files, depending on what you wanted to recover, and you should have them back on your iPhone 8.
